The Hochkonig ski area (meaning 'High King') is dominated by the impressive 3000m peak that towers above the alpine villages of Maria Alm, Hinterthal, Dienten and Mühlbach creating the huge 150km Hochkönig ski area. The area is a hidden gem and little known to the Brits who tend to ski in other popular resorts like St Anton. 36 ski lifts and an amazing 37 mountain restaurants, plus winning a prestigious 4* rating for Intermediate skiing and 4* for lift queues from the "Where to Ski and Snowboard" guide book 2008! (St Anton 3*, 2*, Zell am See 3*,2*, Mayrhofen 3*,1*).
