Chatel, France

Description: It is located at 1200m in the middle of the Port du Soleil very close to the Swiss Border. That altitude of 1200m is a bit of a concern, although it is an attractive village, it can get clogged up by cars. An underground car park helps a bit and other Port du Soleil resorts are easier to get to by piste than road. It's easy to get around the village on the free bus - it operates during the day going past all the access points to the piste, and it also operates in the evening so you can enjoy events that are on around the village. We love the chalet style buildings, most of which are timber clad with charm and authentic decorative carpentry both outside and in. If you walk around you will notice that the local master carpenters personlise each balcony railings, decorating them with flowers or animals.

Chiesa Di Valmalenco, Italy

Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy

Description: The town is beautiful and has been described as both voluptous Italian and quaint. It's set in the Dolomite which has some of the most dramatic and beautiful scenery in Europe. Ok so the ladies wear Gucci, Prada and maybe a little fur, which might be a little off putting depending on your taste. You really don't have to ski here to have a good time and you'll find that most of the town rise at a very civilised hour, enjoy a little window shopping, a leisurely coffee and cigarette before heading up for a run. What is good though is our fox furred ladies wouldn't be seen dead on the slopes too early which leaves them all clear for you and your friends. Famous for hosting the 1956 Olympics the resort has little to do with skiing/snowboarding it is now hard to find a ski shop amoungt the cafes and designer outlets.

Corvara, Italy

Description: Corvara is one of the best positioned resorts in the Sella Ronda ski area.

Courchevel 1300, France

Courchevel 1550, France

Description: A much cheaper option than 1850 it is less hectic place than its more famous brother and is is one of the five villages that make up the resort of Courchevel. Courchevel 1650, France

Description: Rather less famous than its sister at 1850m it is somewhat less cosmopolitan too. Not a bad thing either. It is a friendly place and give you great access not only to Courcheval but the Trois Vallee or 3 Valleys as well. The main road to 1850 cuts through but doesn't spol the attractive village centre.

Courchevel 1850, France

Description: Is this place still called Courcheval or is it Moscow on snow? 1850 is the known as one of the No 1 resorts in France with a nightlife to match the status. Quite a dreary centre this doesn't stop the rich, famous and celebrities such as Victoria Beckham visiting on a regular basis. To be fair the skiing into the 3 valleys is brilliant - everybody should visit this resort at least once in their life. It's a fantastic base with Michelin starred restaurants,

Courmayeur, Italy

Description: A fabulous place to go if only to watch the world go by. We at Snowbrainer really love this traditional Italian village/town which is just over thw boarder from Chamonix. The village itself is traffic free in the centre and the the apres ski is just brilliant whilst alse being very refined. A little advice, leave your skis and boots up the mountain at the end of day rather than having to walk back into town with them on.

Crans Montana, Switzerland

Description: Ok, so it's not a chocolate box swiss resort but the mountains are simply stunning. It is really two towns set a mile apart. Crans is the more upmarket with fancy boutiques. Flaine, France

Description: OK it’s not the prettiest resort with its 1960s Bauhaus-style concrete blocks, reminding you of Eastern Europe. There are some nicer areas though they are a trek from the slopes and village like Hammeu-de-Flaine with it’s wooden chalet style buildings. Also not everyone can boast sculptures by Picasso, Vasarely and Dubuffet in their ski resort. Recently Intrawest the North American Ski area developer has come to town and is creating 2500 new beds in the faux hamlet of Flaine Montsoleil. What makes Flaine so great is that it really is close to Geneva at just over one hours drive. Further up the hillside is Faline Foret with it’s own bars and hops and the bus service runs this far. The resort is child friendly with the main areas being car free and with play areas. There are further villages around with links to the main lift system and both Les Carroz and Samoens are two of the more beautiful ones.
